Findon Sheep Fair

We took a lovey walk up our village in Findon and was surprised by the mass of crowds and events going on at this years annual Findon Sheep fair.

Apart from the scotching heat and unwelcomed sunburn on my neck, a lovely day was had by all! Image

Demonstrations were running all day, but we managed to capture the Morris dancers, Sheep Shearing and Falconry.
A good selection of food stalls, including chinese which had the longest queue. My hubby was in that one.
Craft stalls in the marque, funfair entertainment, small holding animals and allMorris Dancers - Findon Sheep Fair - Sussex Mums for FREE! Great family day out! Looking forward to next years!

Sussex streets come alive with the Olympic Torch

Broadwater Green WorthingGreat to so many crowds catching a glimpse of the Olympic Torch in Broadwater, Worthing today. Though my older two son’s was more distracted by the queues outside KFC. It was an amazing occasion to capture a moment you may only experience in one lifetime!

It was good for the kids to see grown ups moved to tears with hugs and kisses going round. My youngest suggested we should drive up to Hove, to see the Olympic torch all over again!

Picture shown is us arriving at Broadwater Green in Worthing.

What to pack camping with kids

My family and I kind of stumbled upon camping when we wanted to extend our short break at centre pacs. We struggled to find any accomodation at short notice for a family of six and the kids seemed to nags us to go camping.

As I trawled the internet to find out what to pack for camping, I pretty much brought most things mentioned. However we are planning a proper camping break in Cornwall this year and I have decided to compile a list of items I wished I had packed!

Apart from the usual essentials like a tent! I am going to add a few more must haves on the list, which would have made my first camping experience more pleasureable.

You can pick up great camping essentials at Camping World

Essential items

  • Family tent
  • Groundsheet
  • Hammer
  • Sleeping bags
  • Inflatable  mats or Sleeping mattress
  • Pillows
  • Windbreak
  • Folding chairs
  • Folding chairs for the kids too
  • Gas stove and cylinder
  • Corkscrew and bottle opener
  • Whistling kettle
  • Cutlery
  • Non – stick deep sided frying pan
  • Small saucepan
  • Hand and bath towels. ( Pack as many as you can)
  • First aid kit
  • Gaffer tape ( Can fix broken polls, tears in tents)
  • Dust pan and brush
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Cool box
  • Plastic collapsing water carrier

Consumables

  • Kitchen roll
  • Loo roll
  • Foil
  • Washing up liquid
  • Pack a discloth and pan scourer
  • Bin bags and spare carrier bags
  • Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate sachets ( I can’t travel without my Mint Tea)
  • Sun screen, before and after sun
  • Insect repellant
  • Citronella candles ( Keep the bugs away)
  • UHJ Milk
  • Baby / wet wipes
  • Disinfectant hand wash
  • Shower gel
  • Soap
  • Spare batteries and bulbs

Must haves

  • Blankets ( Wash and pack some old ones, ideal if the little ones feel a bit cold at night)
  • Cut costs by using those shower gel gift sets you got for Christmas.
  • Collapsing plastic crates. ( Ideal for packing food, toys or clothes. Keeping the tent tidy)
  • Picnic rugs ( Handy for the beach, park or in your tent. I pack some under the sleeping mattresses in the bedrooms to insulate any heat)
  • If you have the space, let the kids take one small ruck sack each and pack their favourite game consoles, puzzles, books etc
  • We didn’t have an electric hook up on our last camping trip and though it was August it was cold in the evening. So I won’t be without my heater.

Food

Buy food as you arrive, rather than have food weltering in the heat on your journey. Most campsites have a shop, which stocks most perishables including, fresh food, butter, milk, beer and wine. Others even offer sausages and burgers or have their own cafe!

If you want something more adventurous, shop local and consider creating a menu list. Pick these up on your way to camp.

It’s a great idea to cook ahead and freeze one of your favourite meals. Pack in a cool box, which should be defrosted as you arrive. All you have to do is heat it up and relax.

Don’t forget to take, herbs, spices, garlic, ginger or gravy granules.
